Willesden Green Planning Application from fiasco to farce

I got a Brent Council e-mail alert overnight which seemed to say that the Willesden Green development had been approved by the Planning Committee last night. The links led to the pages above and below. I rang Democratic Services at 9am this morning and they said the announcement was a mistake and had been withdrawn. I was amazed when I got the message that the Planning Committee would have the audacity to consider the application after announcing the items deferral.

This is developing into a farce!

  1. It's ironic that it was posted on the "Council and Democracy" section of Brent's website.

  2. On 15th February someone has posted three expressions of support from the same address in favour of the new WGCC building. Here is my response "The final date for objections was on 14th February, so your well reasoned and beautifully written peaen of praise for this massive overdevelopment will probably go un recorded. I am sure you are aware that there are 95 boring and unremarkable flats taking over 72% of the site in order for Brent Council to raise just enough revenue to allow the developer to build a cheap building for about half the cost that it ought to be. When the flats are built, the private gates will be shut and the 'exciting' cultural agenda in the building will be quietly forgotten and rationalised due to further budget cuts. The wonderful new building described by you will then deteriorate, the white rendering will go discoloured and the internal finishes will fall apart. How do I know this? Because that is precisely what has happened to the perfectly adequate WGLC building. Oh well, the onward march of progress will steamroller over everything in due course. The younger generation will be left with the appalling legacy to clear up." Good luck to everybody when the building is completed.

  3. The expression of support was submitted on the 14th and will be recorded (it takes a day or two to be put up on the site). As for the rest of the response, even though it is most certainly outside the timescale for any consideration, on the basis you appear to know what the future holds with 100% certainty, it's perhaps no wonder you have no concern about High Road remaining in its current decrepit state in the future, seeing how many betting shops there are..
